Day 1

Arrival in the Kingdom of Bhutan

  • Experience: Your journey begins with a breathtaking flight into Paro International Airport, surrounded by Himalayan peaks. After completing arrival formalities, you will be greeted by your guide.
  • Evening: Settle into your hotel. Take a gentle stroll through Paro town to ease into the serene Bhutanese pace of life.

Day 2

Thimphu's Monastic Treks – Dodeydra Monastery

  • Morning: Embark on a rewarding hike to Dodeydra, a stunning monastery. It is a serene monastic retreat nestled in the mountains north of Thimphu. Perched at an altitude of 3,000 meters on a cliff face, it is a significant spiritual site that offers spectacular views of the Thimphu valley. 
  • Afternoon: Explore Thimphu’s highlights, which may include the Buddha Dordenma statue, the National Memorial Chorten.

Day 3

Over the Dochula Pass to Lungchuzekha

  • Morning Drive: Journey over the Dochula Pass (3,100m), stopping to admire the 108 Memorial Chortens and Himalayan vistas.
  • Highlight Hike: Begin your hike to Lungchuzekha Goemba. This beautiful trail through ancient rhododendron forests leads to a monastery with arguably the best panoramic views of the Eastern Himalayas from any point on the Dochula range.
  • Evening: Descend into the warm, subtropical Punakha Valley.

Day 4

Punakha's Villages and Fertility Blessings

  • Morning Hike: Hike up to the magnificent Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a unique temple perched on a hilltop overlooking the Punakha valley. The hike takes about 45-60 minutes each way through rice fields and forest
  • Cultural Visit: Visit the famous Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple), dedicated to the Divine Madman, Drukpa Kunley.
  • Sightseeing: Be awed by the magnificent Punakha Dzong, strategically built at the confluence of two rivers.

Day 5

Into the glacial Valley - Gangtey/Phobjikha

  • Scenic Drive: Drive to the Phobjikha Valley, a wide, glacial valley and one of Bhutan’s most important wildlife preserves.
  • Wilderness Hike: Upon arrival, take a gentle hike along the Gangte Nature Trail. This beautiful walk descends from Gangtey Goemba through forests and meadows into the pristine valley floor, home to the endangered Black-Necked Cranes in winter.
  • Overnight: Phobjikha Valley

Day 6

Cultural Hike to Longtey and Drive to Trongsa

  • Morning Hike: Embark on a cultural hike to Longtey Village, interacting with local communities and learning about their unique customs and lifestyle.
  • Picnic Lunch: Enjoy a well-earned picnic lunch amidst the serene natural surroundings.
  • Afternoon Drive: Begin the scenic drive to Trongsa, the gateway to central Bhutan. The route offers dramatic views of the Black Mountains.

Day 7

The Heartland Awaits - Trongsa to Bumthang

  • Scenic Drive: Drive to Bumthang, the cultural and spiritual heartland of Bhutan. The journey crosses the Yotong La Pass (3,425m) and descends into the serene, cheese-and-beer-producing valleys.

Day 8

Bumthang's Sacred Sites & Serene Hikes

  • Full Day Exploration: Bumthang is a valley of myths and legends. Today is dedicated to exploring its sacred sites. Choose from a hike to:
    • Thangbi Goemba
    • Ngang Lhakhang (Swan Temple)
    • Visit the Jakar Dzong, Kurjey Lhakhang, and Jambay Lhakhang.
  • The specific hike will be chosen based on group interest and time of year.
  • Overnight: Bumthang

Day 9

The Short, Scenic Return Flight to Paro

  • Morning: you will drive to airport for your flight to Paro. 
  • Afternoon: Post lunch, explore Paro’s highlights, which may include the Kyichu Lhakhang (the oldest and most sacred temple in the country) and Paro Fortress.
  • Overnight: Paro

Day 10

The Grand Finale: Tiger's Nest Monastery Hike

  • Iconic Hike: Conquer the legendary hike to Taktsang Palphug Monastery, the Tiger’s Nest. This challenging but deeply rewarding 4-6 hour pilgrimage to the monastery clinging to a cliff face is the perfect culmination of your Bhutan journey.
  • Celebration: Soak your muscles in a restorative traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath to celebrate your achievement.
  • Overnight: Paro

Day 11

Departure from the Land of the Thunder Dragon

  • Morning: After a final Bhutanese breakfast, your guide will transfer you to Paro International Airport for your departing flight, wishing you a heartfelt “Tashi Delek!”
